IKEA Kallax wall fixing with skirting boards in situ….. tell me your solutions!!

Built my IKEA kallax yesterday and pleased with it but definitely need to fix it to wall as DS is a climber!!

It doesn’t go flush against the wall due to the skirting board and we’re trying to think how to fix it. Has anyone else had this and what did you do?

TIA

There's an Ikea Hacks Facebook page which has lots of solutions for this. Putting feet on it can help.

You could buy some L brackets and fix them to the top.

We ended up taking that bit of skirting off and sticking it in the loft, the kallax won’t be getting moved until we move out the house in a couple years so we can just put the skirting back beforehand.

Put a spacer behind the bracket

I think we’re going to end up doing what @Whentwobecomesthree suggested. We can’t be arsed taking out that bit of skirting board!! Thanks for the replies everyone 🥰

DH put a spacer behind a wardrobe because of this

Malbab · 06/05/2023 07:22

Excuse my ignorance what is a spacer and how will that help with the skiting board situation...

I would like to know too!

DH used a small wooden baton behind the wardrobe which is a bit of wood screwed to the wall the same width as the skirting board to bring it out a bit, you can buy proper spacers which are more discrete but with a wardrobe you can't see it anyway.

Fakeairpodsfakeoodie · 06/05/2023 07:32

You can get different types but type into Google "spacer for screws". It's like a tube that lets you use a longer screw for something so that it can be held away from the wall.

SisterMaryLoquacious · 06/05/2023 07:35

If you use straps or cables rather than fixing it directly to the wall then the additional distance of the skirting board shouldn't be a problem.

Anyonebut · 06/05/2023 07:37

Different shelves, but I am guessing a spacer like this (rubber ring that you can put a screw through)

Don't ikea provide spacers? I bought a similar unit and they were in the pack.

purplegreen99 · 08/05/2023 10:31

I got a plinth made for mine, to lift it above the height of the skirting so it can sit flush with the wall. I could probably have done it myself, just had a builder here for something else at the time, but it's just a 4 sided thing made from a length of wood the same height as the skirting.

LiziMcP · 25/09/2023 14:48

Hi, Please can you post a picture of the plinth and the unit on the plinth please? We are looking at our options as have the same problem so it will either be this or getting some legs to attach. Thanks so much.
