Hi - my new neighbours have asked my consent to carry out some works on the party wall between our houses. They've sent over a load of documents with diagrams etc - the basic request appears to be as below:
To cut into and away from the existing party wall to install structural support and associated works as designed by a structural engineer.
Under section 6 (1), paragraph (a) in relation to excavate within 3 metres of the adjoining property. And with reference to the above premises, it is intended to carry out the works detailed below after the expiration of one month from service of this notice. The proposed works are to excavate within 3 metres of the adjoining property in order to install foundations for the new extension and padstones for structural support as designed by a structural engineer.
I don't have a clue about any of this - the neighbour is presenting this as a formality but obviously I don't want to agree to anything that leaves me open to liability if anything goes wrong or if my house is damaged. Do I need to engage my own surveyor? Or get some form of indemnity from them? I do not want to spend any money on something that has no benefit to me...
Thanks in advance!
