Hi
We renovated our home 3 years ago, had the whole thing painted white. Been looking at colours and think I'll put wallpaper in our snug. The room is about 4m x 4m. Two walls have bifold doors that open up and create a floating ceiling to the back garden, so was thinking the opposite walls to these doors ... this is the paper...

It's the silver/grey that dates it. I'd pick another colour.

WheresTheForum · 02/05/2023 07:09

Can any say what IS in fashion colour/wallpaper-wise? I have no idea!

I’m not a huge fan of the wallpaper you chose (although if you really love it then go for it- you’re the one who’s going to see it every day).

If you’re looking for other ideas with some grey/blue tones then I’d go for something like this:
https://www.littlegreene.eu/loriini-tuscany
or
https://www.littlegreene.eu/paradise-dusk
or
https://www.littlegreene.eu/belton-scenic-oyster
or

or
https://www.grahambrown.com/row/product/ink-blue-ombre-bespoke-mural/111845-master/
(I think having some other colours as well as the blue/grey makes it look less dated and more classic). Or having a more simple design might be nice if you’re going to add some more statement pieces of furniture/rugs etc.
I’d then add silver tones with other objects and accessories if you want silver (e.g. mirror/photo frames).

It’s totally personal preference though- what I like might not be right for someone else (I often see interior designs that aren’t my taste but that look amazing for someone else).
Also, I think a lot depends on what else you put in the room (furniture, accessories, curtains/rugs, paint colours, plants etc). If you get the styling right then your wallpaper will look lovely.

That third Little Greene one looks nice (Belton). Would work with the Ambleside side paint for a garden room.

Love the Etsy one!

I rather like birdy prints and love colour but that is probably because I am in the kind of housing where you leave things alone and not allowed to decorate things yourself.

If I ever could afford my own place I would have to have an expert in to reign back my excesses!

YukoandHiro · 02/05/2023 08:40

Hmmm I was ready to love this by the description but I think the silver base is already very dated - quite 90s in style.

Would you consider something with more depth like a patterned paper with a navy or bottle green base?

ChinUpChestOut · 02/05/2023 08:45

We moved 3 years ago and painted our new living and dining room completely white - as is our style. Found it looked cold and boring, and frankly a little dull. So we painted our living room an olive green (faces south west) and our dining room a faded denim blue colour. We have wood floors. Love it. The art that we have really pops out on the walls, and we have a statement light in each room.

My only question on your wallpaper choice is if it will go with your furniture and art/photos? A really busy wallpaper can be difficult to work with so you might find it looking less stunning if your art/photos start competing with the pattern. I'd be inclined to either use one of the colours in it and paint your walls, or just have the wallpaper on one wall.

SparkleHard · 02/05/2023 09:12

I think the silver/grey will make the room feel really cold, especially if it’s shiny/ reflective which this looks like it is.

TiaraBoo · 02/05/2023 09:45

Do you love it and would it make you smile looking at it? That’s all you need to consider.

VegemiteSammich · 02/05/2023 10:52

I think it’s bloody fab. Ignore the nay says. The colours have a vintage vibe. I think it’ll date nicely.

it’s not a tattoo. It’s wallpaper. If you don’t like it you can change it

Lamelie · 02/05/2023 13:05

I love it but not the grey. Ride or die with the fuschia or lemon.

SirVixofVixHall · 02/05/2023 14:56

That is PVC though rather than paper. PVC gives off toxic fumes, I wouldn’t cover a wall with it .

Lemonycakage · 02/05/2023 15:19

Don't go with grey, that's already dated. Don't do one wallpapered wall or section. That's dated too.

Thanks! Yea indeed it's not too difficult to change!

Currently the art in that room is framed French Cabernet posters and a French print on canvas ... it probably wouldnt go with the wallpaper but I can move them to a different room

Tigofigo · 02/05/2023 19:13

Why have you gone for those colours?

I think they're quite cold and something greener / lighter might be better to reflect the outside?

Moveoverdarlin · 02/05/2023 19:41

I’m not keen. It’s the metallic sheen that makes it look a bit blingy / tacky. The one @Backtothegym has suggested is nicer.

Grantanow · 05/05/2023 11:27

Wallpaper very likely to date if you're Mrs BoJo.

lurchermummy · 05/05/2023 11:31

Sad to say I think the whole bird wallpaper thing is already getting dated. But if you love it then it doesn't matter!

Bluebells1970 · 05/05/2023 11:35

I work in interiors OP and we've got a huge selection of current and classic wallpapers with birds on ... never did William Morris any harm!

It's the colours that date rather than the pattern if that makes sense?

Agree, I find blue and silver quite cold. But it’s personal taste. For me, warmer and softer colour ways wins, but the pattern won’t date its rhe colours that will.

Samanabanana · 05/05/2023 12:30

Have a look at Sandberg wallpaper. It's beautiful, and classic and will look fabulous for years

8roses · 05/05/2023 12:59

I really like it

Doggymummar · 05/05/2023 13:25

Love it in lemon
