How long until we potentially complete?

So yesterday our chain completed when our buyer’s buyer found someone who offered on their house. They’re cash buyers so no mortgage to worry about. There are six of us in total in the chain and we are in Scotland if tht makes a difference. I’m guessing now negotiations will start on a moving date, but does anyone think, going by their own experience, that this is likely to be about 8 weeks time or more? We are going on holiday for 12 days on 26th June and am in a bit of a panic that we will be suggested a moving date of the Friday before (26th is a Monday).

Would it be bad form for us to try and put this off until after the holiday if it’s really close to our holiday date? I have a medical condition that worsens with stress and last year, when we put our house on the market the day we left for holiday, I ended up unwell for the first three days of the holiday with a relapse due to the stress of it all. Ideally the move would happen after we are back but I know that certain elements of the chain have been pretty pissed off with how long the process is taking so I don’t know if they would push for earlier.

If it were even a couple of weeks before our holiday it would be fine also but am getting the fear that it’ll be really close to it. The weak link in the chain appears to be the solicitor of our buyer, according to my own solicitor they never seem to answer correspondene. Could this potentially hold things up? Thanks in advance for any useful insights from anyone.

It’s a) unlikely this would take 8 weeks with 6 in the chain and b) totally legitimate for you to state “no go” times that you’re not able to complete and move in. Others in the chain will do the same and it’s up to the solicitor to juggle this and find a date that works for all.
