£2k mattress doesn't fit!

Ok, so it's just under £2k but it came, fit through the doors but got wedged on the stairs which I hadn't thought of. I felt so bad, there was no way they thought they could do it and I think they might have been concerned about damage too so I said we'd try.

We've tried and it will not fit. Physically can't. What are the options? Take out banisters? Through the window?

I accepted the delivery so I doubt they'd take it back for a refund as they said they won't repair any damage if it were to get damaged so we've been careful not to push it too much.

Call and ask to return/exchange for 2 singles? Otherwise, try and vacuum pack it.

It would have been better to tell them to take it back and have a refund.
We had to do this with a bed in one house as it wouldn’t come up the stairs. They may not take it back now. Have you measured your windows to see if it can actually fit through?
It will, be a very expensive mattress if you’ve also got to pay for someone to remove and then reinstall a window!

So annoying to have a problem with a mattress. I don't have an answer so maybe try sleeping on it.

MrsApplepants · 25/04/2023 23:15

You need to find a solution and put this to bed.

It's a super king so can't go with 2 singles.

In hindsight, I wish I'd done that! I was sure they just didn't want to do too much damage but they'd also been trying a while.

Argh I've just remembered the windows are even 20cm too short which would mean it would need to be bent which they've said not to push too hard with the springs.

I'm kicking myself.

We had this problem when we tried to get a very thick superking mattress up our new build stairs. It couldn't be bent and there was no way it was getting up the stairs.

We'd bought it from Bensons for Beds who were fantastic. They took it back and swapped it for a zip link mattress (essentially 2 singles that zip together).

Yes, this is it, a very thick super king from Bensons!

Did you have to accept their waiver then call to swap or did you not get that information at the time?

You need to see if they will take it back and swap for a zip link mattress instead.

bellsbuss · 25/04/2023 23:46

You need 2 3ft zip link mattresses instead

@HelpMeArgh I'm so sorry, it was nearly 8 years ago and I can't remember the exact details.

We didn't keep it or the bed on the day of delivery. They took it all away and brought it back when they had the new mattresses. They actually provided a temporary double bed while we waited.

They did say that someone should have warned us and given us a paper measuring tape to check. That definitely didn't happen, we were moving into a new build so it would have triggered a discussion about HOW we could check. I can't remember if that's why they chose to help us out or not.

I was also quite pregnant, and it was the second delivery in a day that didn't fit in the house so i was quite emotional (unhinged!) as well. They might just have felt very sorry for us.

Hope you get it sorted. I love our zip and link anyway, you don't feel as much movement from anyone else in the bed and the kids sleep in the little dip in the middle!

Oh God this happened to me (almost). I bought a super thick mattress from John Lewis! We spent an absolute fortunate on it and the delivery men really, really struggled to get it up the stairs. I asked them what would have happened if it couldn’t fit and they said they would take it back and give us a zip mattress instead.

Hope you get it resolved.
