Incomplete chain

We’ve recently had an offer accepted on a house - we’re chain free, the vendors are looking but early days. We’re just letting them get on with it and not putting pressure on. But how long is reasonable to give before we start asking what’s going on?

A month to 6 weeks depending on what your timeframes are to need to have moved?
I would suggest giving them a cut off if you have one in mind - eg not willing to wait for more than 6 months for them to find something.

I am in the same position. I've been waiting about a month so far and they haven't found anywhere suitable to buy yet.
My mortgage is confirmed but I am holding off on searches and survey until the chain is complete. I don't know if this is the right thing to do but don't want to spend out if the vendor can't find anywhere and it takes too long.

3-4 weeks but I'd probably ask for an update after 2 weeks to see if they've viewed many places or made any offers yet... It depends what your market is like I guess.

same - we’re sorting the mortgage but not doing anything that costs us until chain is sorted!

I'd be happy to wait about 3 months. It isn't always easy to find an onward purchase given as most will have to put their house on the market and sell it before they can even make offers on other houses.
