Sealing interior sandstone wall.

Would appreciate any words of wisdom.

We’re completely renovating Victorian semi. Now at the stage of having one of the rooms habitable! It’s the front/living room.

we’ve had the exterior repointed. The sandstone is a real feature so decided to keep the chimney breast exposed. The problem is, as beautiful as it looks, every morning we’re met with a fine layer of sandstone on the hearth. Powdery fine, like dust.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what we can use to seal the interior sandstone wall to prevent it leaving a layer of find sandstone on the hearth every day?

Thank you in advance

I was always under the impression that sandstone has to breathe

I certainly wouldn't seal sandstone. As PP said, it needs to breathe. There might be products you can use which will help though. I'd ask in these two FB groups, which are really helpful for all things to do with period houses and natural materials, etc.
