Dining room as a cloak room?

We are a family of 5 in a 3 bed terrace with a narrow hallway and no vestibule. The bane of my life is shoes, scooters and bikes in the way. Our living room and dining room has been knocked through (not by us) and we currently use the dining room as a play room which as most playrooms are is just a glorified toy storage area and dumping ground. The kids have grown out of most of the toys tbh.

We are outdoorsy so do have a lot of coats/waterproofs/hiking boots/wetsuits/skateboards/bikes etc to store, so it makes sense to change this room to something more useful, I've just never seen anyone with a small house use a room like this. Obviously the issue is that it is open plan, but we could add doors in I guess.

Has anyone done this and can show me pictures of ideas for storage so it looks less like a dumping ground?

I thought a cloakroom was a posh name for a downstairs loo? Do you mean that or more of a boot room utility space?

Im not sure about bikes and scooters. I see pictures of them on wall hooks, but they are always sparkling clean.

But I think you could put in some lovely wardrobes for all the other stuff very easily amd still keep it muti use.

My friend has a dining room off the front door. She has two monks benches which all the shoes go in.

you could put in lots of IKEA pax wardrobes for storage of boots / coats etc. build them in and think carefully about getting all the right storage in - bike racks etc. it would be a great use of space. you could put in a stud wall to separate from the kitchen too - think like the semi-open walk-in wardrobe spaces that you see in bedrooms sometimes.
