We are looking at some houses near the South Croydon station. We plan to be there for 10 years. Is that a safe and good place to live?

South Croydon is ok. It doesn't have a great reputation. Do you have or plan to have children? I'd recommend slightly further south if you can afford it - Purley or Coulsdon South if you want to be on Thameslink. Alternately the areas around Sanderstead/Riddlesdown/Upper Warlingham stations are nicer, leafier, and still fairly affordable, and on a good train line. The Kenley/Whyteleafe/Caterham trainline is slower and only goes to London Bridge, but it's also a nice area.

If you hate large well kept parks, great transport links, beautiful woodland walks, friendly shopping and eating out then South Croydon is not for you.

I've lived in North Croydon for 16 years and never heard that South Croydon had any kind of 'reputation' apart from being greener and more middle-class. It's more likely to vote Tory, which isn't a draw, but safety-wise it's decent, obviously not as safe as a Surrey village as it's part of Greater London but it's safe on those terms and hardly akin to Thornton Heath or inner London risks. It's got nice restaurants, parks and housing for the most part. Check proximity to secondary schools if that's a factor. There's several private schools around there and not so many state ones, but again that's a sign of it being wealthier.

It depends, if you are looking for a multicultural town, then you will feel at home.

I'm raising our two little girls on Bramley Hill, just ten minutes from South Croydon station, and I really love this community. I'm biased as a local councillor for Waddon of course, but parks like Waddon Ponds and Duppas Hill are great for kids, the local nursery and GP services are so caring, transport links are good and neighbours are the best. I hope you choose to come here!

People never seem to know that the south of Croydon borough is countryside and very affluent on the whole. South Croydon - as in around the station of the same name - is more urban but still a much nicer area than central Croydon or West Croydon. The area between Lloyd Park and Whitgift School is nice and peaceful, good green spaces and you're still by the fast train links.

If I had to pick a location in Croydon Souh Croydon would be one of my top two. NEVER heard of South Croydon having a "reputation", now West Croydon is another matter 😖
