How is an asbestos survey conducted?

Does anyone know how exactly an asbestos surveyor collects samples for testing please? Can't seem to find that level of detail by googling and am concerned about damage. What info I have managed to find says they will take samples from 'least visible areas' and presumably they need samples from inside walls etc but I'd just like to know exactly what they actually do to obtain said samples?

We had asbestos in our garage ceiling and also had some artex we were suspicious of. A surveyor came round, changed into protective gear and took tiny samples (I couldn't tell where from afterwards) from different areas of each room for analysis. I suppose it depends where it is as to whether it would cause any damage, but the surveyor can probably tell you before they do anything.

Depends what level of survey. We had a survey for renovation, and they took samples from ceilings, walls, climbed into the loft, pulled up floor coverings and sampled the flooring, pulled cladding down and sampled behind it. I was shocked at the mess. But we did have asbestos under the lining in the kitchen, in the bitumen that had glued down some flooring, and under our stairs in some electrical wires. So glad we had it done, as we got it removed safely by a removal company and have more peace of mind now we're working in the property

When we had ours done, the surveyor drilled several tiny holes in the walls and ceiling, collected the "dust" as he was drilling, and then filled the holes with filler. Our walls and ceilings were white so it didn't show after filling the holes, but he still tried to find the less visible sites, such as darker corners of the ceiling and behind pictures etc on the walls.

How much does it cost?
