More. I grew up in a very small semi, DB had a tiny little cell and no room for a dining table. We are. Now in a humble terrace bit lots more room and DC have a double room each.

more

only child grew up in a two up two down

have two kids, have an extended 4 bed

Moonlightsonatas · 10/04/2023 22:55

A lot less space, my parents had a large detached house with a massive garden that they paid about 100k for in 1990. I have a 2 bed semi with 2 young kids and a garden that is about the size of a large shed.

AtTheEndOfMyWick · 10/04/2023 22:56

More, grew up in box room of a 3 bed semi. My kids have a bedroom each plus a spare room which is my office

CC4712 · 10/04/2023 22:57

Larger house now- but grew up in a large house abroad. Then spent 20yrs in a flat in London, then 2yrs in a static van in the garden renovating a derelict property- which is now larger than my childhood home.

Sherrystrull · 10/04/2023 22:58

Less. Much less. Breaks my heart.

PuttingDownRoots · 10/04/2023 22:58

Same number of people (2 adults, 2 children but DH away a lot of the time). Similar size house, 3 bed semi detached

DarkDarkNight · 10/04/2023 22:58

More, pretty similar size house but just the two of us rather than 6.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/04/2023 22:59

Less. But detached not a semi. However that's because I moved far away from London!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 10/04/2023 22:59

Less, like massively less!

Hillrunning · 10/04/2023 23:00

Far more. Though we were my no means overcrowded growing up.

BumWad · 10/04/2023 23:02

Far more

Humbled

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 10/04/2023 23:02

Way less space now and fewer people. My childhood home was a 7 bed Victorian old vicarage and unfortunately I grew up just expecting to have the same kind of lifestyle without understanding that I’d have to put the effort in! I now live in a scruffy 70s bungalow 😖

Whatthediddlyfeck · 10/04/2023 23:04

More, but the house I grew up in was far from small

tenbob · 10/04/2023 23:04

Much bigger house, much smaller garden

AdoraBell · 10/04/2023 23:05

More. Grew up in a council flat in east London. Parents to a semi detached house in right to buy, 6 family members. Now just me and DH now that DDs are in Uni.

Ovaeasy · 10/04/2023 23:05

About the same but a smaller garden now.

Babdoc · 10/04/2023 23:07

Far more. Parents grew up in slums with no flush toilet, and a shared cold tap. By the time I was born, they had a tiny semi in a working class London suburb, where the sitting room was too small to fit a three piece suite in, my bedroom was a cramped boxroom and there was no dining room.
I moved to Scotland and now have a four bed detached house with a good sized garden. I bought it for £29K in 1983, which was just under one year’s salary at the time.

Wenfy · 10/04/2023 23:09

More. Much Fewer people.

Rainpuddle · 10/04/2023 23:10

The same size of house but less people. So more space overall.

OlympiaLove · 10/04/2023 23:10

I grew up in a 3 bedroom house but with 2 siblings.

we have a huge 4 bedroom house but I have 5 children. We are managing absolutely fine just now as littlest ones are all very small but will likely convert loft then convert master bedroom into 2 rooms as they get older.

Saschka · 10/04/2023 23:14

Far less, grew up in a four bed detached house in the countryside, live in a small two bed flat in London. Significantly more to do around here though - I wouldn’t move into DM’s house if she offered me a swap.

Hellocatshome · 10/04/2023 23:22

Same number of people less space.

Karmatime · 10/04/2023 23:26

Much less, grew up in a big old house in the middle of nowhere. I’ve always lived in cities since leaving home so a lot less space inside and out. I wouldn’t swap though.

BrieAndChilli · 10/04/2023 23:27

More and more people.

teen years were in a tiny 2 bed sharing a room with my sister.

we now have an extended 3 bed semi so have 4 beds, 2 bathrooms, extra reception room and a large very usable modern conservatory. There are 5 of us (3 kids ranging from 12-16)
