Feeling down trying to get our house ready to sell, any words of encouragement

Hi! We’re getting our house ready to put on the market and everything is taking so much longer than I imagined 😞 We’ve done the decluttering bit, but now we’re on to decorating and I’d forgotten how tiring it is.

This is our dining room now, does it look good enough / appealing? We don’t want to spend too much so just decluttered, painted and staged with the nicest stuff that was in the room.

Lounge, kitchen, bathroom, three bedrooms and hallways left to go and I just feel a bit down in the dumps. There are three houses for sale in our street which all looks perfect so need to get ours looking it’s best.

Yes I think it’s lovely!

Good luck with everything else

It’s lovely but honestly don’t spend ages decorating! How depressing when you’re not even going to stay! Save your money and accept a slightly lower offer? Lots of people love to make a place their own anyway. Good luck on your move.

Thank you! I’m glad you think it looks nice.

Has it got grey smudges on it or is that just a shadow?

Thank you. I know but we’ve been here 15 years and some rooms haven’t been decorated since we moved in. We’re not in a massive massive hurry to sell so would rather it looked its best so we stand a chance to get the best price we can in comparison to the other houses around here.

Looking at both pictures it looks like a massive grey patch down the wall and across half the skirten board. I needs repainting.

🙈 just went to look and check! It’s just the shadows the shelves are casting. Phew - was dreading a third coat!

I’ve just checked and it’s just the shadows falling oddly.

It looks lovely. Homely, but not too cluttered - just right.
Good luck!

ValerieDoonican · 10/04/2023 15:14

It looks great! Please come and do my house when youve finished 😉

It looks lovely I think we can sometimes be too critical when. It’s our own house. Definitely don’t spend money on changing things. Good luck with the sale

Houseplantmad · 10/04/2023 15:28

Turn the piece of furniture around so it’s under the shelves. Would look more balanced. Otherwise looks nice.

I did have the dresser against the other wall before but this way makes the room seem bigger. I know what you mean about the shelves though

I think you need to pull the gray dresser away from the shelf wall, leaving some space between the end of the dresser and the wall. When furniture is pushed into a corner, it suggests a lack of space.

I’ve not heard that before, thank you. I’ll give it a try and see how it looks.
