Moving to Albrighton, Shropshire

Is anyone familiar with the area? We are considering relocating to nearby. We've viewed a property that we like and had lunch in the Shrewsbury Arms which was great. Any other insights into the area welcomed. Is there a local butcher/farm shop? Any particular crime issues etc? We are looking in a rural area nearby but I will be catching the train from Albrighton a couple of times a week.

I have family there - pretty sure there’s a butchers on Station Road that is well regarded? It’s sleepy and doesn’t have a whole load going on - quite an older demographic. But if you have a car you’d be fine.

Where are you moving from

I also have family near there. It’s really nice. They said there are some better butchers in both Codsall and Pattingham. Various farm shops in the area. Doctors surgery is good too. David Austin Roses is based there, which is worth regular visits.
Gets manic during Cosford Air Show every June, and noisy! but you’ll enjoy the show and hopefully have any visitors arriving rh day before to watch the show. We used to go up the day before and stay for the weekend.
Quiet area but also good for getting to and from other places. Codsall train station is also an option as better parking - so I’m told.

That's brilliant, thanks for the replies!

Quiet and sleepy is what we're looking for, moving from the South East commuter village which has grown rapidly and fed up of the increased traffic. Didn't know there was an air show, the property we're looking at has a balcony so we might even get a prime viewing spot :)

We lived in Albrighton 20 years ago when my husband was stationed at RAF Cosford, in Talbot Rd behind the Shrewsbury Arms.

I found it a great place to live, good local shops, a few pubs, fish and chip shop, train station. Plenty of places nearby to visit

Close by you have Telford for shopping, and 1.5 hours from Chester or 2 hours from southwest with motorway only 2 miles away.

I've been back in last couple of years to visit friends, and it still seemed lovely.

Only negative is 8 miles from Wolverhampton.

The air show is put on by raf Cosford, its good. Also there is a good aircraft museum at Cosford

You can’t really go wrong, it’s a lovely place, and lots to explore and do in the area. I would happily move my family to Albrighton if I had the opportunity. Hope the move goes well.

I've visited a number of places in Shropshire and they were all lovely. Albrighton wouldn't be my choice for a place to live, but that's because I would prefer a town rather than a village, although it's a plus that it has a train station. Personally, I don't like Telford all that much, so prefer Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton for shopping and a day out. From Albrighton you travel into Wolverhampton city centre through Tettenhall, which is one of the nicer areas of the city. And Wolverhampton has a mainline train station. Bridgnorth and Ironbridge nearby are pretty riverside towns.
