Catchment area: ideal timing to buy family home in Edinburgh?

For families moving to a chosen catchment area in Edinburgh, what's the time of year they'd typically be looking for a new home? We're putting a detached house on the market in the Sciennes / Gillespies area, but not familiar with the admissions cycle for newcomers to the catchment. Is there a time of year by when families need to be "in" their new home, so to say, to meet the deadline for the next school year?

The main Edinburgh application deadline is November off the top of my head, but most Edinburgh schools now keep a couple of spaces for people moving in to catchment anyway.

I'm not sure it would influence when I'd try to sell tbh - in Edinburgh I personally aimed for summer as the house looked so much better in the sunshine!

Hi there, thanks for taking time to respond, that's good to know - November's earlier than I expected. But good to also know a few spaces are kept open too.

Hi this sounds very interesting to me! We're looking for a detached house in the catchment area for those schools......pretty much the best ones in Edinburgh. We've been looking for ages but keep getting outbid or seeing properties come on the market and get sold before we get a chance to view them.
Please let me know when your house is on the market as we'd love to see it! 😀
