Do plantation shutters keep the heat out well

I'm thinking of replacing normal blinds on a south-facing window with plantation shutters to try and keep the heat out better.
Do they make a big difference? I guess not as much as external shutters but would this be worthwhile?

Ours don’t, and we had our sash windows double glazed. Thick full length curtains are best, or the thermal blinds.

That's good to know as it's the main reason I was going to spend a small fortune on these.

Ours don't either I'm afraid.

Nope. I would look into light reflecting film maybe?

You lot have probably saved me hundreds of pounds!

I can't add curtains as it's a bathroom and would look odd but I could get the window film.

We have full wood shutters and they definitely help keep the heat our but thick curtains would probably be as good

weve got some whit ones and they do reflect the blazing sun but the heat still builds up in the room as the day goes on . So no they won’t stop your room getting hot ,just maybe slow it down a little.

I'm envious of you having a sunny warm bathroom! Ours is north facing and just never dries properly which causes mould ☹️

I was looking into solid shutters for the same reason as you, OP, but for two bedrooms rather than a bathroom. Having received advice here, and a “real life” recommendation, we’re getting a Dimout Duette blind which has a light-reflecting backing. No good for a bathroom of course. I’ll insist on keeping the curtain tracks so we can layer it with thick, white-lined curtains on those horrible hot days to come
