Hi all,
We are currently expecting our first child and considering buying in Welwyn Garden city or surrounding areas. Please can you share your views about living in Welwyn Garden city and schools there? Thanks!

WGC is a safe area, it's not terribly exciting. Plenty of open spaces and parks. It's rail and road links are particularly good for getting about. However, I've always found it to be a pretty dull place if I'm perfectly honest. Schools are generally good. Surrounding villages and Old Welwyn however are much nicer, more personality.

I moved from London to WGC over 15 years ago.
It’s a nice place to live if a little dull but London is easy to get too.
There are plenty of activities for children but teens tend to socialise in other areas such as St Albans and Hertford.
There are some lovely primary schools but the secondary schools are not so great. Stanborough has just been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted but I didn’t like it for my child and moved to an independent school. If you have a girl then I thoroughly recommend Bishops Hatfield, it’s a great school.
Public transport is pretty poor so a car is needed.
