Hi,

We've recently accepted an offer on our house and are house hunting at the moment.

We're going to look at this house tomorrow

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/132182531#/?channel=RES_BUY

It's a bit unloved but we're quite excited about the house and my husband is willing to put some work in it

I sent the link to my parents and they both think that the house is horrible.

My mother thinks it's terrible that the house doesn't have a hallway.

My father thinks the same and he also said we should get a cat to keep away the rats (as he says the house is close to a canal in Birmingham).

What does mumsnet think?

Thanks xx

Glad you liked it "in the flesh" too. It's very typical of the area, and looks well priced. Friends live not far away and love the area. You've heard about the parking issues, and if you can live with that, I reckon it's a great option. No advice here on haggling price, sadly, but good luck!

I like it, we live in a cottage and have never missed a hallway!! With this layout id just have a good carpenter in to build a large cupboard to put all coats, shoes etc in so they are shut away. It also looks like you get three decent sized bedrooms, which can sometimes be tricky to find.

I think it has loads of potential and is in a great location. Good luck Op.

I know the area and King’s Heath is a great spot- especially for families. On location, it’s great.

The house does seem cramped, but it depends if you are minimalists! It has good potential but needs a lot of cosmetic work. ( which doesn’t mean cheap to fix)

how long do you plan to live in it? Imagine if feeling very crowded with older kids and all the crap you build up being a family.

I lived in several rented houses just like this when I was a student in Coventry. They were all fine, but I probably wouldn't choose one if I had kids because the stairs were really steep. It seems like a lot of money for a project but I'm not that familiar with the housing market in the Midlands.

I like it. Isn't that peaky blinders district?

I feel really dim- I've only just realised that I've lived in a house without a hall for the last 8 years and never noticed 🙄. Come to think of it, our last cottage didn't have one either and I never gave it a second thought. It would have had a front door opening into the living room from the lane (no front garden) but there was a small lobby. So not an issue for me- the stairs would be a far more significant consideration.

Loads of potential!

Easterfunbun · 04/04/2023 21:21

It’s great.

@pottydimley

I live in Coventry and the house prices are mental here. Very expensive now.
