Tell me all about air con

Our living room is south facing, has sky lights and becomes excessively hot in summer. So i want air con. But i know nothing about what to ask air con installer when they come to quote.

Is there a brand that's way better than the rest? What does your aircon unit have that you love/hate?

Im not too worried about electricity consumption as we have solar panels that overproduce on sunny days (exactly the days I'll be wanting to blast cold air).

Hi there, we had AC installed last spring - it was a godsend in summer. We have Daikin, and although the units can be controlled via an app, we haven't set it up yet! We requested a quiet unit outside so that it didn't disturb us in garden nor the neighbours. We have installed in the lounge & 3 bedrooms and had to decide on one or two units outside. We went for one, that stands in the corner of the patio (not on the house wall). We also opted for the units that heated as well as cooled (apparently cheaper to run, but we haven't measured that yet, as it is very rare that we use to heat). Hope this answers some questions.
