Passport renewal when moving?

Just realised passport runs out in mid October and would like to go on holiday abroad in August so won’t have enough validity.
Would just send off and hope it comes back in time but we’re moving. Hopefully will be completing end of April or during May but no date as of yet.
Cant have the passport sent here in case we’ve moved! Apparently not sent by Royal Mail so not included with redirections..
Don’t think I can have the passport sent to a post office or parents as has to be my current address?
What to do??
Wait till moved and then hope for a quick return? Worried it won’t be with strike backlog..
Was considering getting a fast track one now which is very expensive but there are no appointments anyway…

Where are you planning to go on holiday?
What was the passport issue date?
If going to Europe it's no longer 3 months left before expiry date, it's 3 months left before it gets to 10 years past the issue date.

Ah ok in that case the new rule change wouldn't affect you. When people have had time added onto their passports so it expires say 10.5 years after issue people are getting caught out.

Just renew it now. I applied for mine last week and it was back in less than a week.

I applied for mine a few weeks ago and it took less than two weeks to come back.

Just apply and it will likely to be back in a couple of weeks (both mine and OHs were). Failing that would you not put a redirection on your mail anyway?

Just thought that the passport office strike would definitely slow it up and they’re saying possibility of 10 weeks plus?
Royal Mail won’t redirect passports-have checked..

I think I'd ring the passport office for advice on this one.

You're right, you might not have received it before you move and then it'll go to the old address.

Your address isn't on the bloody passport. You could ask them to have their courier deliver it to the moon if you wanted to.

It is delivered by courier, not by post

It has to be delivered as far as I know to your current address which is where all the checks are done or else I’d have it delivered to my parents or to a post office but having looked at the rules think that’s not possible…

Makes sense re courier and / or not redirected by Royal Mail but I think I'd just apply now. Your potential completion is still maybe 2 months away and sometimes slips. Go for it!

Do it now - I did mine last week and it’s come back today!

If its not back by then.... just talk to your buyers. Most people will be understanding and you get notice of when it will be delivered.

Do it now.

If for whatever reason it isn’t back in time, leave a note for your buyers with a bunch of flowers or whatever to say if something gets delivered for me can you let me know. You get text and email confirmation when it’s on the way so if it’s not there within a couple of days you could knock on.

Apply with current address.

If you end up moving before it comes back, call the passport office and ask to change the address it's delivered to as you have moved. They should do this - it doesn't always work, but you absolutely can request a different address for delivery if you have a good reason.

If all else fails the courier will phone you as your phone number will be on the application. I had this as they sent it to my non-married name even though I had definitely put my married name, and in Germany where I live if your name is not on the door, post won't get through! I explained the issue to the courier and they were happy to press the bell I said and deliver to me as they could see/hear I was the person on the phone.

I'll say nothing then despite having worked for the passport advice line.
