Bedrooms

We have a 3 bed house with two children and contemplating how we can have a bigger ‘box’ room.

Has anybody resized current bedrooms? I’ve no idea how much this would cost 🤔 or if it would affect resale value of making second bedroom smaller to make two more even sized bedrooms that would both just about fit a double bed.

It would depend on whether any of the walls you want to move are supporting the roof.

Read the op. They want to add walls rather than delete them. It would probably increase the market asking price as people in Britain tend to be more concerned about number of rooms rather than Square meterage. Important there is enough space for beds and drawers / bedside table and maybe wardrobe or desk for working. You could be very clever and build some of these into the room using technology by companies like IKEA that fold out etc or have a divan bed with storage underneath.

I read it the same as you, OP can you clarify so people can advise?

Yes move the wall between the two rooms.

they’re currently 3.3 x 3.3 and 2.4 x 2.2

looking to move it by 0.8 metres to make a 3.3 x 2.5 and 3.2 x 2.2.

both would realistically take a double bed although it would be tight walking around it. I guess we’re just debating if it would add or remove value.

Look at the window positioning, would it look even and balanced ?

RENO24 · 31/03/2023 20:47

We’d have to make the window smaller in the larger bedroom to move the wall so we would account for window sizes.

I'm planning on doing something similar eventually and we will also need to change a window. But we don't have the extra room you do. I'm not sure if I'd do it if it was only going to benefit a guest room.

Hang on ignore me I'm getting my posts mixed up! Seems like we are in the same boat.

I think carefully planning the layout of each room is key. You can also get beds which are not quite a double that may help? I envisage investing a bit in carpentry to have storage built in to make the best use of the space.

Sorry and one last thing. There was an episode of love it or list it where they did this and it seemed to work quite well. The couple with the three daughters is what I can remember!
