Sockets and Switches.

I'm doing a low budget kitchen makeover, so having new counter tops and I'm going to try to paint the cupboard doors. I need more sockets so I'm going to replace them all at the same time.

I have old white plastic sockets and switches at the moment. Appliances and sink are stainless steel now but before that, I had white.

I can't decide between brushed stainless steel or just nicer white sockets? I like white and it's easy but kind of feel that if I'm going to be replacing them all, I should be upgrading to stainless steel. But then I feel that white might be more me. I am not fancy. Do people still put in white sockets?

I quite like the look of Knightsbridge as a brand.

We took hideous brass ones out of this house and replaced with white. It was just easier, and they don’t show up fingerprints as much as SS ones.

Thank you!

We have just started replacing all switches and sockets (this started with a new kitchen) with nice new white ones. the brushed steel ones had tarnished, the brass ones had scratched and in the hall we had 4 different styles and colours. The white ones look so clean and simple that I will be changing ever socket I can find and also adding more USB ones on my way

Thanks, these replies are really helpful. The matt white looks lovely.
I'm sorry, I meant brushed chrome when I said brushed stainless steel. Has anyone else had problems with it?

Get white ones, stainless steel ones just look a bit naff.

We have brushed chrome ones but the flat is very industrial so it’s suits the general aesthetic. I haven’t had any issues with them and think they look cool!

Another vote for plain white, we have Crabtree throughout. Square or rounded is up to you. You might need a variety of M3.5 electrical screw lengths for existing pattress boxes, make sure the slots line up vertically.

Do not bother with the USB charging sockets they are woefully slow.

We have just changed to the white ones from chrome. Looks fresher and neater.

Daftasabroom · 22/03/2023 16:10

The satin chrome are also close to 10x the price.

Agree with the USB charging sockets being almost useless, but we have a little illuminated Snowman which is powered via USB so they weren't entirely wasted and are used once a year!

We have these ones https://www.toolstation.com/bg-screwless-flat-plate-brushed-stainless-steel-13a-dp-switch-socket/p81359

They look a bit darker and sort of "laquered" in real life, I'd discribe them as brushed nickel rather than steel. But our splashback is a mix of light grey / sage / off-white tiles with dark-ish grey grout, so white socket would stick out; these ones blend in nicely, which is what we aimed for.

Did you go for the knightbridge Matt white ones? I’m thinking of doing the same

I still haven't decided!

Does anyone have any feedback about toggle light switches?

These are the Matt white Knightsbridge switch plates you were thinking about getting. I also thought it was pointless switching white for white but I think these are so lovely. Ultra slim , screwless , not plastic , think they might be stainless steel sprayed in Matt white finish
