Building works and home insurance

I booked a roofer for a full reroof. For weeks on end, he would assure me that work was starting ‘next Monday’ which would come and go with no show and no communication. I’d started to think he might not show at all but then his team turned up Monday morning without notice.

I called my insurance provider immediately to tell them work was commencing and the underwriters have asked for his public liability policy or they will cancel my insurance. He agreed to send it but I’ve not received it yet. How long should I give him? I’m feeling anxious as I obviously need to make sure my insurance is valid but I don’t want to sour the relationship while my roof has no slates on! Although he must know I’m fed up at this point, I’ve remained polite and friendly and struggle with assertiveness.

I don't know why you are letting him carry on with work when he hasn't given you it. You need to be more assertive.
