When do all the spring houses come on?

Am I just impatient or is my area really quiet? Very few houses coming on. I thought the market woke up again in spring or is it a bit early still?

I've been wondering this too! Same story in my area. I sold last year (now in rented waiting to buy) and waited until May to list to get my bedding plants in and window boxes ready (March and April were spent deep cleaning and painting).

Given we had snow last week people maybe don't feel it's quite spring yet. I'm hoping April will see things pick up.

Ok that makes me feel a bit more hopeful!

After being a bit shocked by all the financial upheaval last year we were hanging fire a bit but have decided renting is just throwing money away so going to go for it - except doesn't seem to be anything to go for!

We're hoping to sell this year and plan to go on the market during May. Friends are doing likewise, so I think perhaps May is when many sellers are aiming for, probably partly due to all the awful weather lately. In our case (and friend's) it's because we still have stuff to finish/prep for sale.

Previously when selling in the first half of the year we've marketed in early March or April, but it's not feeling remotely spring-like here yet so outdoor jobs can't be done.

I hope it picks up soon too. We’ve sold and are renting and there’s very little on the market. I’m stalking a couple of properties on Rightmove that are over budget in case they reduce but the gap is too big to view as I don’t want to fall in love with something we can’t afford.

TrinaLowsln · 20/03/2023 16:59

Not sure the usual spring rush will happen this year with the market as it is.

Might be worth viewing anyway, we've just got somewhere for 50k under asking.

I thought Easter was traditionally peak Spring market. It's still three weeks away yet.

Sliversands · 20/03/2023 17:08

I think it's April before the Spring peak normally begins. Hopefully prices will have calmed down a little bit.

I work in property development and I’ll be looking at listing in the next 2-3 weeks. We don’t wait for specific times though unless it’s dead of winter pre-Christmas, just when they are ready.

What was the asking?

A friend just viewed a place. She’s FTB, and the vendor has somewhere lined up. She offered 7% under asking and the estate agent asked her if she was having a laugh.

WonderingWanda · 20/03/2023 17:17

I'm currently doing painting and decluttering. Waiting for some plants to grow so probably aiming for sometime in April too.

600k, in Bristol.

It usually picks up in April - everywhere looks better with a bit of sunshine and some leaves and flowers.

Karmatime · 20/03/2023 17:41

@TrinaLowsln - I’d need to get it for 15% under the current asking price. It’s only been on a week so I don’t think they’d consider. I’m new to the area but it’s very popular and less impacted by falling prices than many places. We are cash buyers though with no chain.

Fedupofdiets · 20/03/2023 21:01

I am going up for sale this week so you can buy mine if you like 😀

donttellmehesalive · 21/03/2023 03:07

Estate agents all saying Easter around here, as many want to be in their new place before the start of the new school year. I've noticed an increase in new listings around here in recent weeks although they're not selling.
