How to find a good conveyancer

Do they even exist? Everyone we asked for advice say they had a bad experience.
Our last conveyancing company never replied to our emails or calls. They just sent us a lot of documents and information without explaining anything. We had to search online what do we actually need from them to be able to keep track. It was a nightmare and it's so important. The company was recommended by our estate agency.

Any advice? I'm getting anxious just thinking about it and we haven't even started the process.

I asked our Estate Agent for a recommendation - he suggested someone who did his own recent conveyancing. So far she seems to be very good (including chasing me for documents!)

Dont go for a conveyancing company, go for a respected local solicitor that does conveyancing. (Yes they don’t have to be local; but it means in a pinch you can drop round documents personally)

Thanks for your replies.
It was a solicitor I had before. I guess I'll need to find another one and just hope for the best.
