Electrical cost for an extension

What is a ballpark figure for electrical works for a new extension with a kitchen, utility, bedroom and two bathrooms with a new fuse box connecting to the existing one. And some additional work in existing house - 5 new sockets, 20 spotlights.

Thanks

I don't know but I recently had some electrical work done:

Replace 4x spot lights
Replace 2x lighting fittings
Move 1x light switch
Rewire and fit 6x new spotlights
Wire and fit 5 new light switches
Move and replace 5x double sockets
Replace 4x double sockets
Replace 1x single socket
Fit bathroom extractor where there was none previously
Remove 4x recessed spotlights and replace with new single light fitting
Remove old wired electric heater
Lifting and replacing floorboards and making good in all rooms

£2250 inc Vat

Don't know if that's helpful. It was 4 full days work, and he worked properly full days until 6pm

Oh sorry - I forgot, he also found a fault in one of the sockets which meant he had to go round and test all the sockets in the house to track it down.

Also - I need a new fuseboard - a whole house one - which will be approx £600 for the hardware and another £200 for labour.

@BewareTheBeardedDragon - Thank
you. That’s helpful. Seems like it was a reasonable price given that a new fuse board is also included in that.

Electrics for our soon-to-commence extension comes to £10,222.50

Turning garage into kitchen/utility with bedroom and en suite on top, turning current kitchen into dining, few bits in hallway inc new WC.

And on top of that I think will be moving fuse boxes etc.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 18/03/2023 08:05

No - the new fuse board is something that needs to be done still. Not included in that that price sadly. Trades are very pricey at the moment I have found.

In 2019, I was renovating a 2000 square foot fully detached house. Full rewire cost 12k including 70 odd ceiling lights, many switches, phone, TV and internet cables to each room

Unless you have a very large consumer unit (40+ circuits) then they are a lot less than £600

You know you’re being ripped off, yes?

@Diyextension that's interesting, thanks. Have had a google and guides seem to indicate that the type of consumer unit I need will cost around £500 - I usually find these sort of guides run low. I have used this electrician before and find him very transparent and reasonable but prices for all trades have gone up horrendously since covid. I'm in the SE near London and we pay London prices here sadly.
I'll ask him some more questions before getting that work done though.

Recently had a full house re-wire so that was the works (channelled into walls, lights, loads of extra wiring, Ethernet cables & sockets all where we wanted them, external sockets& lights, extractors and fuse box) basic fixtures & fittings were also in the price. This came in at just over 7.000.
Shop around!! Word of mouth references invaluable too.

Wow, that's extortion!
