Cost of replacement window

We're doing some building work at the moment and need to replace our kitchen window, possibly with an aluminium frame. It measures 1800 x 1000 mm. We've had a quote from a window company that our builder deals with for over £2000. This seems a lot for one window, but we're not really sure what to expect.

From previous experience with double glazing companies they can take up a huge amount of time before they will give a quote. Does anyone know how much is reasonable and whether aluminium is way more than upvc please.

People on MN can not quite for windows. Your best bet is to get in touch with local double glazing companies, rather than the ones who advertise on tv. Get several quotes to compare. The one we used just came and measured up, gave us a quote and that was that, no hard sell required.

Thank you for responding. I wasn't asking for a quote but whether the quote I was given sounded reasonable. I will try another company.

Does that include fitting? I've had a number of quotes, and the prices have been really high. For one casement window, they have varied between £1250 and £4000 (looking at timber or aluminium mainly)

4.4 k for casement in accoya;
3 k for casement in hardwood
2.5 k for casement in softwood
window approx 1.8 X 1.1
If anyone has lower quotes for wooden windows I'd love to speak to your joiner!

Yes it included fitting. It seems such a lot, but maybe that's the cost.
