How to repair this coffee table?

We had corner protectors on our coffee table for our son but he's managed to rip them off 🤦‍♂️ and along with it is the paper wood cover.

Is there any products that can repair this that I don't know about or will we just need to paint over?

Personally, I would level with some wood filler and then try and blend match with some paint the same colours.

I am a painter though so looks easy to me.
