90ft fence replacement total costs? Can it be 10k?

£111/ft sounds like it might be right for a shortish length of fencing with labour etc taken into account but I would think that economies of scale would reduce the costs considerably for 90ft's worth

We replaced a back fence 2yrs ago, but honestly can't recall the cost.

We got 5 quotes from local companies- which varied wildly. Word of mouth is best but nextdoor.com can be helpful. Avoid check a trade type companies at all costs! Ensure all quotes are quoting like for like. Also check they they include removal of old fence- IF that is what you want.

Size of the base, kick board thing (sorry, no idea the correct term is) will alter the price. We got 12 inch, but some people only get 6 inch. Ask for a hedgehog hole. Trellis at the top etc will also add cost. IF the existing posts are still good, then you might just need replacement panels.

I realise I haven't answered your question, but why not get some local quotes so you have an idea of price? Also, at this time of year, lead times can get ridiculous as people are thinking about using their gardens again, so get in quick if you are going to get it done.

We paid £4,500 last year for a 6ft high 55 metre fence (about 180ft?) and that was with concrete posts and gravel boards. If we'd gone with wooden posts it would have been £3,500. We're in the West Midlands so it'd probably be cheaper than the SE but I wouldn't have thought that much cheaper.

We paid about £3500 for a 110 ft 6 foot fence two years ago. Concrete foundation, gravel boards, lattice top.

Things might be more expensive now but that seems way too much.

We had a quote for a 6ft high 68ft (20m) last year, rough sawn timber, and it was £2470.

In North Wales so prob a lot cheaper than SE.

We have just had ours replaced last week. It is 50m long with new concrete posts and gravel boards and 6ft high fence panels. This was alongside a new gate and disposal of all the old fence. It cost £2700.

We replaced a 45ft fence last year, 6ft high with concrete posts and kickboards. £500 for materials, and we built it ourselves. We’re up north and too tight to pay for labour

Many thanks for all the replies - really helpful (especially the hedgehog hole - such a great idea)
Will her some local quotes (we’re in Sussex) but looks like it should be not more than £3k based on the costs above - which is a relief
wish we could do it ourselves but useless at DIY
good tip to get done ASAP before everyone else starts getting their gardens done

We’ve just had ours done, £5000 for about 10 metres. Appreciate it’s extortionate but we couldn’t use pre built panels due to the current concrete posts so the fence had to be made on site. No fancy materials either 😫😫😫

Thank you for sharing - I’d have assumed it would be cheaper with the concrete posts already there, are they a non-standard distance apart?

Yeah they’re non standard distance. So pre made panels won’t fit. Actually I think it’s about 15 metres or even 20 - think I underestimated the length

Hell if the concrete posts are already in and it is 6ft panels then it should be very cheap. The biggest problem with fencing is getting the posts in - it took me forever.

To replace a panel with concrete posts all you need to do is get the old one out and slot a new one in - the biggest problem is hoisting it high enough to slot the new one in if the posts are slotted (some are some aren't).

Why do you need your fence replacing - is it the posts that have rotted at the base (if so you can shore them up with metal post braces) or are the panels knackered ? If it is just the panels and they are 6ft standard then it should be cheap to do.

A mixture of both it looks like but it’s entangled within the bramble bush so can’t be accessed until the bush os removed - but the bush seems to be providing a lot of structural support to the fence so looks like it would all come apart once the bush is cut back

The price for materials is easily checked on a diy website, then consider how many days it takes and extra costs like nails, posts

There are fences, and there are fences. A close board fence with concrete or 12cm posts and gravel boards will be substantially more expensive than a pre-made panel fence with 7.5cm wooden posts.
Whatever you choose, get concrete posts.

so difficult to find reputable trades people!
had a bad experience recently so need to be much more careful next time. thought check a trade might be a safer bet.

We've spent the last 2 years doing up what was a derelict property. We've had 20+ trades over that time. New roof, ground works, carpentry, painting, plastering, new drains, electrics, plumbing etc.

Not 1 of those trades are on check a trade nor do any recommend it. Trades should get enough work vie word of mouth if any good. I'm Sth East, so maybe its this area? There might be other comments about them on MN. MIL used check a trade- 1st time the quality of 'work' was amateurish. 2nd time- took money for materials up front, only did a half job before disappearing. MIL was too embarrassed to tell us till months later, so tricky to chase by then.

If you can't find someone via word of mouth, I'd consider asking on nextdoor.com or a local community FB site if you have one. I hope you find someone suitable.
