A rep from Safestyle came out today to quote us for a new composite front door. 6k! Are they mental? Are they scammers? He said that as with 30% discount 😂

They are piss takers. That is crazy

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 08/03/2023 22:54

For a door?
What's it made of? Gold and diamonds?

Babooshka1990 · 08/03/2023 23:10

@Geneticsbunny I wondered if they were one of those companies who preys on elderly people who may be a bit confused, and that’s how they get business?

He was using proper sales tactics including making a call to head office to get us a ‘special deal’.

Yep. You've called it. The rep we had deliberately arrived at 5pm so that he could 'talk with my husband'. The look on his face when I told him he wouldn't be back until 9pm but he could always discuss things with me was priceless 😂 his manager called him partway through to see how he was doing. The fact that my DH wasn't home was mentioned twice during the call. If only I had had a functioning brain....

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 08/03/2023 23:14

Run away!

My mum paid about £12k for all windows plus front door, so £6k for front door alone is crazy. Their sales tactics are so ridiculous they made me laugh at the salesman.

In any case their follow up was horrendous, took more than a year for them to do the follow up work (even then it was crap, they successfully wore us down).

Floralnomad · 08/03/2023 23:20

Find a local independent firm , you are more likely to get a realistic quote

Babooshka1990 · 08/03/2023 23:22

We had a look on Glassdoor and ex employees have slated them

We recently had a new composite door from a local firm we have used previously. It was £3,300 I think but one of the fitters said he used to work for Safestyle and they were awful to staff and customers.

Campervangirl · 08/03/2023 23:29

I had a safestyle rep out once, I almost signed up but he wouldn't let me sign the paperwork without my OH being present even though I explained that I actually owned my house not OH.
Completely exasperated I finally got him to leave and went with a local company who turned out to be less than half the safestyle quote.

Babooshka1990 · 08/03/2023 23:37

The husband thing is weird, ’come to think of it another window company I spoke to on the phone asked if I had a husband, and said ‘we will have to speak with him of course’. No use doing that if I’m the one hiring/ paying is there??

They quote at least double. Then when you tell them your absolute limit they then have to phone their 'manager' to see whether they can discount further but normally come in within a couple of k.

89redballoons · 11/03/2023 02:50

We recently got a new composite door with an Ultion lock and stained glass, as well as new frosted glass surrounding panels, all done by a local firm. £2.5k and they were really nice guys, reliable and efficient.

Safestyle quoted us £4.5k! That was with a more basic lock as well.

We had a top quality composite door, different colours from and back and installed by a local tradesman for £1400 four years ago. Always avoid large glazing companies....been a scam since the 1980s and nothing changes

Twizbe · 11/03/2023 11:38

Safe style we're awful. We had a quote from them for our front door.

It was stupidly high compared to others we'd had. They would also take loads of money off to having free advertising from us (so clearly over pricing their doors) and the rep slated their competition as a way to convince us to go with them.

We went with a local company instead.

OnMyWayToSenility · 11/03/2023 11:51

Safe style have been taken to court many times for ripping people off and doing a very bad job! Run

SWW · 14/03/2023 07:56

I had a composite door installed by Safestyle in Oct 2013 and it cost £1200. Almost ten years on, the door has aged well. It will probably be at least another 10 years before it needs changing. My patio door was installed by Safestyle and when it developed a problem with closing a couple of years ago, Safestyle came and sorted it out quickly as it was within the 10-year guarantee period. Would I choose them again? Not sure, but after having had a door, several windows, and a patio door installed, I have to say the quality and workmanship is very good. The sales people are pushy though, I have to agree with that!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/03/2023 17:09

Run as fast as you can!

We had a composite door fitted by them about 10 years ago. Their idiot fitter drilled through the hall wall into my bedroom and a few years later we had problems with the locks so we decided to cut our losses and get a new door as I didn't want anyone from that company in my house again.

They also ring constantly to ask what other work you want doing and only stopped when I told them to take me off their fucking list as why would I want anyone from a company that damaged my property and didn't give a shit about it in my home? I was told there's no need to be so rude but when numerous polite requests don't work what do they expect?

Choconut · 14/03/2023 17:12

My neighbours had their windows done with them around the same time we had ours done with Salisbury glass. Ours were much nicer and 2k less.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/03/2023 12:36

I had a UPVC front door with them a couple of years ago. It was fine. Very happy with it. Would have liked composite, but it was out of budget. And UPVC has been ok for years anyway. Just be firm that you don't want anything else doing.
