Open infra - fibre optic

I would like to hear from anyone that has gone with Open infra.

I have had a man knock 4 times in the last month trying to sell me fibre optic. They are trying to upgrade most of our are.

He has not been pushy as such but gives the whole ‘it will add to the value of your home’ and ‘we will fit it for free and you don’t have to pay anything whilst in your current contract’ and ‘most companies are charging you too much and this will be cheaper’.

I have looked some reviews from other countries but they don’t seem that great.

As I said I would just like to hear from anyone that has chosen to go with them, if you found it worth it and if you have had any issues please! ☺️

I also am looking for information about this. Thought it might be a scam. I have sent them an email asking for information and what it is all about just now.

From what I gather, they are not an ISP but just the infrastructure. Like BT, they will sell their line to other companies to offer services on and then (unlike BT), according to their website, we should be able to switch companies easily and not be beholden to contracts and can switch to cheaper providers (using their network) as and when. It isn't very clear what we are obligating ourselves to at this point though, but if they answer my email and I am able to make heads and tails of it, then I will let you know. They don't currently have a network in my area so they are canvassing to get people to register interest and once they reach a min of 40%, they will start work to dig up the roads and lay the cable for it as I understand it.

Thank you @Shiagi that would be extremely helpful! It seems odd they there will be no charge - nothing in this life is free 😂

Find out whether it's fttp or fttc. The fibre to the premises or fibre to the cabinet. That will make a difference.

Hi apologies it has been a while.
I emailed the company a bunch of questions and they emailed back asking for more personal information which I did not want to have to give them as I already gave my post code / area in the original mail.
The sales rep has knocked on our door several times over the past few weeks even though he said they were only around our neighbourhood for another 2 weeks and that time has gone now. Since posting, two weeks back I got a letter with the costs of the line and answering some of my questions which they should have sent in the first place and that is when I decided to stop pursuing questions and answers. Who does door to door in this day and age? I am not going to talk to a sales rep about technical things in winter at my door nor invite them in. They should have detailed the prices before and the fact that by that registering you are locking yourself in - the caveat being that you can cancel 'before construction'. What a trap. It seems too much of a round about way to get customers locked in.
The cheapest cost is £29 pm for 500mb/s of 'Free broadband' for 36month contract! I think it is dodgy marketing to put the word 'Free' in to confuse some people and I don't want to be locked in to a service for so long at such a price. I don't currently need high speed internet so we are good at the moment. What we have is enough for our needs.

I would just like to add that I had one of their salesmen knock on my door tonight. I was not impressed by his patter. He essentially told me that my copper telephone line was soon to be disconnected so I had better sign up with them there and then otherwise I would have nothing. Putting the frighteners on is an age old technique used by bullies on vulnerable people. Sounds like they will tell you any lies or half truths to get your name on the paper. I was close to telling him to #### ### before repeating that I was not interested and closing the door on the little oik.

I have had the sales men knocking at the door several times trying to use peer pressure ‘your neighbours have all signed up’.
They came back today, the children and I are currently at home sick with covid and I feel rotten!, when i said I had covid trying to stand back this man said it’s ok I’ve had the vaccine 🤦‍♀️, I said I felt really ill and didn’t want to talk about it, he kept going so I said I feel really ill. There was a second man poking his head round the door, eventually he did a face and said ok and went. There was no sorry to disturb you, it was not a pleasant attitude to deal with.
