Ducted/vented kitchen extractor hood

Hi All,

Currently planning my kitchen refurb in my house. I have a recirculating kitchen hood above the hob, and I want to replace it with one that vents the smells/steam outside as I don't think the recirculating one works very well.

Kitchen is small - roughly 14" x 10". I have my kitchen window open when cooking all year round so hoping a good extractor fan will mean I don't have to open it as much during the winter months. I also cook a lot of smelly foods.

Has anyone done this before? I'd like to get a rough idea on how to achieve this and the costs involved.

Thank you.

You can certainly duct them to vent wherever you like.
However, you say you "cook a lot smelly foods"; don't expect your neighbours to be happy with the new arrangements - if you go ahead, make sure you situate the vent well away from them.
I speak from experience when I say it's very unpleasant catching wafts of next door's fish dinner / curry / boiled cabbage when you're sitting outside with a glass of white on a summer evening.

It entirely depends on how easy it is to get ducting to an outside wall.
