Online Conveyancing solicitors for buying properties

Hello,

I would like to get some feedback from people who have used online conveyancing solicitors for buying houses please. Looking at the costs they seems to be reasonable priced. But do not know how reliable they are. Appreciate any inputs good or bad you had experienced with them. It will be helpful to know if anyone to avoid in particular. Thanks

We’ve used the same company twice to sell a property and then later to buy one (so had different solicitors on our two cases). They do have a physical office which is in Guildford, but do most of their business online. They used an online portal with easy access to all messages and documents and progress reports.

They were excellent. The first team (when we sold) were really good, the second slightly less good but only in comparison with the first team. The second team did all the work (searches and enquiries etc) very quickly and the seller’s estate agent was very impressed with them.

Nearly always available to speak to, or would ring back quickly if not there the first time.

It depends on who you use, but they are not all bad. These were recommended by our estate agents when we sold our property.

I have worked in mortgage broking for over 20 years. Every time a client has used an online conveyancer or the estate agent recommendation there have been issues unless I've personally worked with them before and known what buttons to press to get results.

When I move I always use a local recommended that I can walk into and speak with if required. Plus I don't like the idea of documents getting lost in the post.

Documents don't get lost in the post as almost everything is done electronically. I think the single document that had to be done the old way was for the Land Registry.

Brilliant. So efficient. I'm in Surrey, they were in Manchester. I had an online portal to log in to, to see my actions, or clearly where we were in the process. My Sellers very local solicitors were useless, as in non responsive, and held up the entire process.

I used Natalie Charles at Bannister Preston in Manchester.

Our buyers and sellers both used them and it was a nightmare. If our solicitor hadn’t gone above and beyond, even telling the sellers’ conveyancer what they need to do to regularise an issue with the house, we wouldn’t have completed for several months more. At one point the buyers’ conveyancer just completely didn’t reply to anybody for about a month. As others have mentioned the issue is that it is often paralegals who are being supervised and need to check everything. Really recommend avoiding unless you have no other option

I think there are just general issues with conveyancers. Local or online you get good and bad? Unfortunately, they are almost always dreadful 🥴

We've used ours for two purchases now, they were absolutely excellent. You just have to choose one with decent reviews.

Those who have been happy with online conveyancers please can you tell me who you used? Thank you

MinnieMountain · 30/08/2025 06:51

@Baroda32 so many law firms do their work entirely online now, no just conveyancers. Just search for conveyancing and check the reviews.

I used these twice. I thought they were excellent. Everything was visible on an online portal, where you uploaded documents, or could view documents they had uploaded. I had a named person with contact number I could talk to. Overall it was an easy to operate, quick and efficient service.
