Solar panels

So we bought a house late last year that has solar panels.
I've just kind of ignored them as there was so much else to get sorted but what do I need to do? Get them registered in our name? We've gone with British Gas for both gas and electricity which is what the previous owners had but I'm unsure what else I need to do. The electric meter is very complicated and not one I've ever had before.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Are or were they on a FIT tariff? If so, the old owner needs to notify the solar provider of change of ownership so you get the payments.

I don’t know much about solar despite my husband working for a solar panel company but I do know that BG is a no no, Octopus is the best provider if you’ve solar panels.

Were they mentioned during the conveyancing? Perhaps check back through your paperwork, as I'm sure it is a question on the form. Any idea of when they were installed?

If they are NOT getting FIT, check with the current energy provider what the price is you are getting for sale of surplus to the grid. It won't be much, you should concentrate on using as much as possible yourself eg put the washing machine on in the middle of the day etc
