I've bought a specific colour of paint, like a basic one for walls and ceilings, used 3 tins and now run out. The shop are out of stock, in fact the nearest 5 shops (which cover about a 60 mile radius) are out of stock. I picked up my 3rd tin last Saturday so they've been out a while.

Anyway said specific colour is available in different types like "durable and tough" and "bathrooms", would these look different when on the walls? I'm guessing there are slight differences in the make up which mean I can't use one? I really need to get these walls finished today if possible but want it done properly

D&T sounds a better bet than bathroom.
You’d have to do a complete room though I guess.

The different finishes will reflect the light a bit differently. Could you get your colour matched by one of those places that mixes paint to match?

Depends what you have left to paint. If you're doing a whole wall, go for it. I did this once - had two different finishes in one room - and I only noticed after I'd finished the second tin! Might be noticeable if you were only touching up details or cutting in, however.

Different surfaces can look and bahve very differently, I'm afraid. If it's in a different room, and you like the surface, fine. But in the same room, especially on the same wall, mostly it will show, sometimes a lot, depending on which type of surfaces are involved.
Paint supply is tricky at the mo. I have one paint I want (a special high-opacity one) and it's a Dulux, but even thier own decorator centres have no idea when they will get any. I have the same problem with some paints in other brands- and paint strippers and fillers are out of stock- even at my suppliers' wholesalers.

Don’t do this, it is worse than trying a different finish.
