How long are sales taking at the moment?

Out of curiosity. Just had offer accepted on a house which had just come back on the market as their previous buyers had had their own FTBs pull out just before exchange and although they waited a bit they then couldn't re-sell so the chain fell apart. We are not FTBs but are in rented with relatively decent deposit, so no chain. Our vendors are still going with the house they were buying originally, who luckily waited for them to re-sell. The vendors of that house have said they will break the chain and move into rented to allow the sale to progress as I don't believe they have found anywhere yet. So I'm hoping it should be a relatively short process but maybe I am being over optimistic. Any indications of what it's like out there right now?!

I was just told to expect 10-16 weeks by our solicitor. It sounds very long to me considering I (the seller) have no onward chain and my buyer is paying cash (already her previous sold).

But basically I understand it to be as fast or as slow as the solicitors make it! Ridiculous- I’m in the US now and it look 5 weeks from offer to getting keys.

It takes so long doesn't it. I can't stand the anticipation 🤣
