solar panels and a hobby specific shed in the back yard.

Diversion · 18/02/2023 23:52

Replaced windows and very happy with them. Had the front and side of the house pointed, expensive and much needed, but nobody looks at their house and goes oh look at my beautiful pointing do they?

Knocked it back to the bare bones and started again, got the keys early May, moved in end of September. Haven't picked up a paintbrush since despite having new upvc sashes installed with wooden trims than need a lick of white paint as they look awful in pine- I'll get round to it one day but for now having ceilings and running water is a bit of a luxury from where it was when we first viewed it 😬

jesper1 · 18/02/2023 23:56

Re did the front room. Large hob including fireplace knocked out and built back
We love it now

jesper1 · 18/02/2023 23:56

Job not hob
Don't have a hob in there

New external doors have made a massive difference to our heating bills and look much better.
I changed soft furnishings in the bedrooms and living area. I did that before painting as I really wasn't well last year so have done a bit of backward decorating. I will have to take it all out this year and paint but I enjoyed buying the cushions, lampshades, rugs, curtains and bedding from my bed!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 19/02/2023 03:42

Ripped out the old disgusting main bathroom and replaced everything, same with en-suite and downstairs toilet.
Repaired and repainted the exterior of the house.
Re-wired upstairs. Put in a loft hatch and partly boarded loft.
1 new external door and window.
Installed a utility room.

The house needs a full renovation. I was on maternity leave last year but now I'm back full time we don't have the time or money to do much. We're doing it all ourselves and will only employ a trade if we absolutely have to.

Gutted the spare room and bathroom (work still ongoing), took down the wall dividing the house into flats (well, a man did it for me), reinstated a staircase, replaced all the windows with upvc sash, removed an extra electricity meter, reinstated some walls and moved some doors. The footprint of the house is now back to what it was, the bathroom is nearly done and so is the spare room, and we’ve got just enough cash left for DD’s bedroom. Then we’re tapped out and have to save for the other two bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen, dining room, and gardens. So 2043? 🫠😭

Babamamananarama · 19/02/2023 04:54

Finished repointing and painting woodwork on back of the house
Had solar and battery installed
Had radon fan fitted
Reinstated a kitchenette which had had sink removed, quick facelift paint job
Built shelves in kids rooms
Repainted woodwork on other side of the house
Repaired a high window while the Scaff was up
Sorted some guttering

All very boring stuff that didn't really change the interior very much!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/02/2023 05:38

Then solar panels early 2023.

How much did the solar panels cost ? I have no idea what this would be.
Impressive lists here. We need to do so much I don’t know where to start. I wish I was good at redecorating. I jus t can’t do it to save mg life .

@Diversion Oh I don't know, my friend did comment on the guy over the roads magnificent rendering. Having paid a fair bit to have my gutters, drainpipes and fascias replaced I should probably point it out more to people 🤣

ladygindiva · 19/02/2023 20:27

Boring AF but... Glossed my woodwork. All of it. Doors, frames, skirting, banisters. White. Did it myself and moaned like hell but delighted now it's done, my house looks new!

Zipps · 19/02/2023 20:36

New bedroom carpets
Replaced radiator and bath panel in downstairs bathroom. Had a walk in shower installed.
Created another flower bed and extended the patio.
Had a new fan and light in the ensuite.
New double bed for guest room
Re insulated the loft.

Amazongirl9 · 19/02/2023 20:43

New guttering and downpipes, and replaced an old conservatory with an extension roughly the same size. That was supposed to have been done pre covid.

FizzyStream · 19/02/2023 20:45

New en suite and new bathroom

Jellylover · 19/02/2023 20:46

New windows, new guttering, soffits and fascias. Now run out of money!

SoAndSoSaidSo · 19/02/2023 21:14

Replaced the 40y old windows. Changed the bathroom to a walk in shower.
Painting and other stuff too. Did a lot of small jobs.

This years big job is to get GCH installed from scratch. Then replace the carpets.

TeenLifeMum · 19/02/2023 21:16

New kitchen and utility plus carpets up the stairs, in the living room and main bedroom. Nothing planned for 2023 (new sofa but that’s not diy).

Sunshinealwaysfollowstherainstorm · 19/02/2023 21:22

Repainted most of the house, put up coving in all areas of ground floor.

2023 coving upstairs, finishing touches to master bedroom, repaint walls in second bedroom.

LibertyLily · 19/02/2023 22:39

Dismantled the front of an existing but badly bodged extension (done by a previous owner, not us!) and rebuilt including making floor-to-ceiling double glazed windows ourselves from scratch.

Removed the wall between this extension and a 'snug' to make one large, light filled living space, which involved added new structural beams. Again all done by us.

Fully decorated the newly reconfigured space (just need to choose and lay the flooring).

Partitioned off a space to create a downstairs loo (to be completed this year hopefully!) and lobby area near the back door.

Rebuilt a covered seating area in the garden, laying stone paving and fitting t&g panelling.

Finished decorating the guest room (begun in 2021).

We're now five years into what should have been a five year project (was a repossession when we bought it so needed everything - including a borehole - doing). Only a few things left to do now - that downstairs loo and living room floor, build a porch, finish the garden and possibly replace the septic tank.
