Hi
we have a garden pod which came with the flat, have renovated it and added a toilet (garden is very long). Currently it’s set up as an office / sitting room. It’s insulated and basic electrics (fuse box, plug sockets and lights ) and has a plug in heater but is by no means luxury.
A family member has expressed an interest in staying in it, one night a week for six weeks (up here for work)for a price. I’ve told them I’m investigating the legality first.
From what I’ve read (we are in Scotland) there’s a confusing line between self contained accommodation and as accommodation. From what I can tell legally they’d be a lodger, as would use the main bathroom for the shower and main kitchen.
If anyone can advise or has had a similar situation I’d be grateful. It’s big enough to fit in a small double bed / sofa bed with ease but I never intended it for sleeping in (longer than a nap).
I technically already have a lodger so am aware of lodgers and of the tax free amount of 7500/yr but this wouldn’t take us over this.
thanks x
