Need help to come up with a name for our home/wedding venue business!

helpnameaweddingvenue · 14/02/2023 05:44

I have a mental block when it comes to naming our new venture and thought I would get the wonderful Mumsnet hive mind to help!

Some back ground:

We have been asked if we would be interesting in hosting small weddings at our home and part of this involves creating social media pages for our property, we need something to refer to our property as, not just 'Sue and Gary's house'

This will potentially turn into a regular little money earner so I'm keen to get off to the best possible start and come up with a memorable name.

I'll give a description of our property:

Large red American barn style home.
Set on a small farm / lovely gardens.
Surrounded by vineyards.
Home interior has a slight Sante Fe aesthetic but mainly country / rustic style.

Our surname is that of a bird, so I have considered incorporating that somehow but it's not crucial.

The obvious name is something like 'The Red Barn' but there is already a wedding venue with that name in another area (about 4 hours away from us)

I like a name that conjures up a mental image...so something descriptive, red, barn, farm, bird etc...

Some of my ideas have been:

The Red Homestead
Red Barn
Red Barn Homestead
The Starling Barn
The Hitching Post (bit cheesy?)

I keep going round in circles and feel like there must be something better...any suggestions?

Just read your name

I'd go for starling barn or starling vineyard

MagnoliaMix · 14/02/2023 12:42

The Red Bird

LillyLeaf · 14/02/2023 12:47

The Starlings Farmhouse

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiivf · 14/02/2023 12:56

In like Vintners View as mentioned above and I see your signage/emblems as the 2 V's intertwined to create a simple bird shape.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 14/02/2023 13:20

I think barn & ranch limit you to clients who envision cowboy themes and hog roasts and the like. Not very classy.

Red just sounds so "bloody." Not garden-y or elegant.

But I guess if it's known as such already, The Red House is ok.

Riverlee · 14/02/2023 14:20

If it is known as The Red House locally, I think you could get away with a name that doesn’t relate to the building, but relates to the business, and then have The Red House in the address. You could list your venue as following:

The Red House
The Gardens
The Red House and Garden

ie. Three options for your business

and your address could be:

’business name’
Red House
1 Vineyard lane.
etc

Quite like “Vineyard View Wedding and Party venue”

(heavily procrastinating today; hence my investment in this thread!)

Was googling a bit and found this; it seems to work for them.

lagrangerouge.com/en/

Though I still think barn conjures a different image. Your place with that cupola reminds me of Churchill Downs.

Stables at Starlings?

The gate on your first photo looks like CGI! Has it been photoshopped somehow? (I'm sure it hasn't but does anyone else see that?)

Viners Hall
Viners
Viners Ranch

Haha nope not CGI, that's really how it looks. It sits slightly off the face of the wall rather than within the archway so that's probably why it looks a bit unusual

This thread is amazingly helpful, thank-you all again.
Something I've realised from reading the suggestions is that we don't want the name to set a certain expectation, ie something fancy/posh, as that's not what we will be offering.
There are multiple fancy vineyards in our immediate area which offer that perfectly.

Our target market is the rustic bride & groom (or g&g / b&b) who want that rural feel.

Hay bales for seating, platters for food, or we fire up the pizza oven / put on a picnic etc...

The company who has come out and viewed our place and wants to market us has said we will be perfect for that niche and that there is a need for smaller venues that offer this more laid back vibe.
We are in a horsey area so there is a lot of interest in being able to bring their own horse to the wedding etc...

Also we would limit the numbers to under 30 guests as we don't have the facilities to cater to more than that (bathrooms etc)

So it's doubtful the engaged couple would be sending out formally worded invitations (I could be wrong)

Now that I've cleared my thinking down (thanks to the comments) I am definitely leaning towards names which reflect a more homey / casual / rustic vibe...

Here is my (not so) short list of contenders:

Red Barn Farm
Redhouse Barn
Red Acre Barn
The Red Ranch
Red Barnhouse
The Red Homestead
The Starling Barn
The Red Barn Homestead
Vintners View Barn
Redhouse Ranch
The Red Ranch
Starlings
The Starling
The Red Farmhouse
The Starling Farm
The Birds Nest
Bird Nest Barn

Let me know your thoughts!

It has to be short, snappy, easy to pronounce, easy to remember in order to develop a distinct identity and name recognition. You don't want people saying "...it's at that barn thing in village xxx." so keep the syllable count down, and be mindful of how the words flow when spoken aloud -- you don't want a mushy mouthful. The article "the" just adds unnecessary length.

Redhouse Ranch or Red House Ranch

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 14/02/2023 19:00

or

Redhouse Roadhouse

though that is a bit twee. But the Cambridge dictionary definition below seems to suit, and Roadhouse does have that rustic American flavor you seem to like.

roadhouse
noun [ C ]
mainly US old-fashioned
us
/ˈroʊd.haʊs/ uk
/ˈrəʊd.haʊs/
a restaurant or bar on a main road leading out of a city

Maybe just "The Roadhouse" or "Starling's Roadhouse"

3girlsmama · 14/02/2023 19:20

Heartwood barn

ApolloandDaphne · 14/02/2023 19:41

Red Homestead and Starling Farm are my favourites. You don't need the word 'the' in front of them.

viques · 14/02/2023 19:47

Practise saying the name as though you are answering the phone. Some of the suggestions roll off the tongue better than others. You also want the name to be unambiguous. No fork handles.

Hmmm no there isn't really any particular flower / tree type that stands out on the property. Not enough to be significant at least.

I like the term 'Ranch' as others have mentioned.

I'm working on a short list of names now so once it's complied I'll post here and get everyone's feedback. This is very helpful thankyou, please keep the ideas coming!

It's been interesting reading that several posters don't like 'red' being used in the name.
I guess I always favour using 'red' in there somewhere as locals refer to our house as the red house and it's quite visible from the distance as the red pokes above the trees.

The Red House Barn

WelshNerd · 14/02/2023 19:52

Suggestions provided by AI:

The Red Rooster Farm
The Vineyard Barn
The Rustic Nest
The Red Barn Vineyard

The Barn at Birdsong Farm
The Rustic Red Barn

Cosycover · 14/02/2023 19:54

Starling Barn or Starling Ranch are the best. No The needed.

Whataretheodds · 14/02/2023 20:04

The Starlings

PumpkinSoup21 · 14/02/2023 20:10

Use a synonym for red?
Ruby Farm
Cherry Farm
or
Birdsong Ranch

Great advice. Think beyond how it looks on paper to how you and your staff will pronounce it, how clients might refer to it, nicknames it might acquire as it develops a reputation.
