Cooker hood - space between hood and cupboards

Does anyone know if there are any regulations regarding the gap between a cooker hood and wall cupboards? Wren designers leave a space either side, but B&Q run the wall cupboards right up to the cooker hood. Any help appreciated, thank you.

Is it already fitted? If not, I recommend getting one wider than the hob, so it can suck up steam and fumes that drift slightly sideways, then butting the cabinets against it. If there is a gap, greasy dirt will accumulate on the exposed wall, and the ceiling above.
