I have a massive cupboard space that is currently not very functional. It's about 7.5ft tall and 12 ft in length. I want to turn it into a functional wardrobe / storage space but have absolutely no idea where to start. Currently has 4 massive doors that open out - they drive me mad. The bottom space holds a defunct air heating system which I would want to get pulled out but I don't know if there is asbestos. Where would you start? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would start by finding out if there is asbestos and then get quotes for removing or making safe so you’ll have a better idea of the space you’re working with.

A lot depends on your budget and the depth of the cupboard. If budget is no issue, get quotes from a joiner to make something bespoke. If budget is tight and the wardrobe is standard depth or bigger, you could use flat pack wardrobes to fill the space (carcasses only). If the depth is narrow, I’d look at freestanding storage solutions like stackable boxes and drawers.

IKEA is brilliant for this kind of thing. I made an integrated wardrobe in front of a chimney breast. It had to be as narrow as possible so I designed it around the jonaxel storage system and now have loads of drawers and hanging space hidden away.
