Insulation rolls..... which one?

Bought a 1930s detached house. It is FREEZING. There's no loft insulation so we're planning to install rolls ASAP. Bit mystified by the different brands so would appreciate some guidance or wisdom. And yes, we are sorting cavity wall insulation too.

Go to b&q and get the rolls of the stuff that is good value. Probably lay it two rolls thick. You don't need to get anything fancy, depth of insulation is the important bit, with the more the better. Don't forget that your loft hatch is also a significant cold spot.

If you get a chance, you can also insulate under your floor boards, but this is a bit more fiddly.

Cavity wall insulation is something I considered and then decided against. Just Google "cavity wall insulation removal" and you'll see that many people are having serious problems with damp in their houses after it's been installed. So, if your house already suffers from mould problems, then CWI will make it worse and could also lead to damp walls. They installed the cavity for a reason.

You can also look at thermal blinds and curtains and secondary glazing. If you've got a chimney, get a chimney sheep.
