Roof tiles

Our roof is undergoing total retiling as the felt had completely wasted away.

Me and my husband were keen to use grey tiles

However

there is an extension at the back and side which doesn't need work to it that has brown tiles.

Also everyone in the cul de sac has brown tiled roofs

But - all the houses were built in 1960s and will gradually need to re do their roof tiles and I would be disappointed if I kept to brown to match others if then people started having grey anyway.

We may work on our extension in a few years and so would then make the extension tiles grey to match house.

Can someone please advise if it is better to stick with brown or can we do the grey?

You should just check with the local planning department especially if you are in a conservation zone as you may need to replace like with like. Hard to say whether you should change to grey but I would say that grey tiles might feel very contemporary but they could possibly date and look rather faddy if they don't truly work well with the rest of the house.
