Front doors

How much were your front doors?

It's one of the last jobs for me. Renovated last year and been finishing bits as I can. Don't want any debt so been I've lived with the monstrosity fully working door but want to gauge what it's going to cost me to replace.

I know all doors are different sizes etc but just to get an idea. Mine has half height side lights.

I got a coloured composite door in Nov 20 for £1300

stormelf · 04/02/2023 19:38

I got a solidor in Spring 2021 which was around £1200

totallybonafido · 04/02/2023 19:41

Just had a quote for a composite door, around £1500

Where are you all based? Not sure if the cost differs in region

Are you looking for wood or composite?

we had a quote about four years ago for a new door and side lights - (hard wood). It was £3k. I’m guessing that would be £4-5k in today’s money. We’re in the South East.

Going to a smaller ‘family’ company will save you 100s if not 1000-2000 against the big chains.

if I remember, foam filled composites are better keeping in the heat than wood filled. More glass means less heat efficient ( correct me if I’m wrong ).

fancy long handles add 100s to the cost.

fancy glass the same.

Composite I think. Wood would look out of place I think. Although they always look lovely.

A friend just got theirs fitted, a composite door with 2 saide glass panels £1700

user1471530109 · 04/02/2023 21:35

I've just ordered one. Solid composite with really quite big side panel-fully glazed with satin glass.
£2300 ☹️.

I'm worried I've made a mistake with the handless design. I prefer the look but apparently there is no latch mechanism so it will lock me out if it shutts 😱

Does the side glass need replacing? Ours was in good condition, and separate, but next to, the door.
Just the door replaced, but a local independent guy, was under a grand for a composit door.
The big guys wanted double that for the door, and treble to replace the side window at the same time.

CatOnTheChair · 04/02/2023 21:37

Oh, and those prices were 6 months ago.

I'm in the West of Scotland & used a small local company. I dont have any side panels of glass its just the door. Bottom half solid top half with a lovely design glass

Blablablablaba · 04/02/2023 23:30

Im near Glasgow bought it from a local firm in August 2021. It's a composite door and was £950. I thought it was very expensive at the time but so glad we bought it before the crazy inflation began. I imagine it's probably about £1,200+ now!

2k for basic, 5k for super secure with a London bar fitted in the frame for security.
