Many thanks

Are the sides of the window recess being tiled? Won't the tiler deal with it? I'd ask if they will do that as part of the tiling job.

My bathroom installer is charging extra to tile this area. He said it isn't part of this quote, but yet he is tiling the rest of the bathroom....so really annoyed. I was silly enough not to get in writing what was included. Basically he said it would take 3-4 hours to cut my tiles and sort out the area as it's so tricky to do. I have metro tiles which I guess are a bit more fiddly to deal with. So instead I'm going to have to try and sand, fill the whole area to make it good enough to paint.

That is annoying. So if you're doing it yourself I'm calling in @PigletJohn.

If you don't know OP, PigletJohn is the resident honorary mumsnet diy and house building issues advisor, and I've seen him advise many a hapless house owner with huge helpfullness. Hopefully he'll turn up soon...

Unless you are going to get a plasterer in to replaster it (or do it yourself?) it will always look a bit shit. I would just pay the extra and get the tiler to tile it. You will regret it if you don't.

Agree. You are probably paying quite a bit for the work, you don't want it to look shit. Odd that he didn't quote you for that part initially though.

Agree on the tiling, or otherwise maybe look at lining paper? Can get thick ones that cover it

Thanks everyone, all sorted in having it tiled 👍
