Newly painted bathroom - hate it

I've just painted my bathroom and I absolutely hate it.. I know it's not a finished product yet as it doesn't have any accessories yet, and definitely needs a second coat of paint. I wanted to try make the room light and airy as it doesnt have a window but now it looks even darker in there and I'm not sure what to do.

I was thinking some panelling on the wall.

Any suggestions would be welcome

Thanks!

I'd be inclined to paint the skirting the same colour. And perhaps do the ceiling in a darker shade. Decide on a tap/light switch/mirror/light colour -an antique bronze/brushed gold???? A massive print/poster above the toilet - Lisa Dawson on Instagram instagram.com/lisa_dawson?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= has some great art work in her house - this last few days she's posted about her legs and hoover print and also talked about her new piece which is a bus destination sign she's had framed. I think that space could take something dramatic.

I think it will be great. And I second painting the skirting the same colour - if it's a small room, highlighting the edges with white trim only makes if feel smaller. Go big with mirrors, artwork, a plant (maybe fake, as there's no natural light, or be prepared to rotate). Good for you, OP, I"m keener on decorating than DH, and so I've done projects off my own bat. You get more confident as you go along, stick with it!

Thanks so much to everyone who has replied!
@Furries the cutting in took a very steady hand.. I was surprised I only had one slip!

I have done the second cost of paint and it is starting to look better.
I will update once it is done

Thanks for boosting my confidence.. usually I'm no good at anything DIY, so proud I've managed to take on my own little project
