Walton on thames recommendation

Hello!
We are looking at moving to Walton on Thames with 2 children under 2. We will commute to London twice a week so felt it would be a good location for an easy commute.

We are looking at new build homes and
would love to hear people’s thoughts on the area? Where to avoid?

And also recommendations on nurseries and schools.

Thank you!!

Ah, you’ve made me homesick!
I lived in Walton from birth until I married and my mum only sold our family home a few years ago.
I went back for a couple of days in September and still love it there.

Walton resident here! No kids so can’t advise on that, but it’s a great place and so well placed for airports, London etc.

@Alsoplayspiccolo thanks for your reply! So glad to hear you still like visiting. Are there any areas you would recommend? And where should we avoid?

@Greenshake same for you - where should we avoid?

To be honest, I wouldn’t actively avoid any areas as they are nowhere near as bad as some would make out. We live in a cul de sac near a big social housing estate and there are very few issues. In fact, when we walk our dogs at night we rarely see anyone. The biggest estate is probably St Johns, but again, the vast majority of people there just want to get on with their lives in peace. What is your budget as that will probably be the biggest decider- some parts are VERY pricey.

We lived in York Gardens, close to Hersham Station. I went to school in Ambleside Avenue and then to the school that used to be on the Academy site.

The areas that were thought of as less nice were places like Molesey Road, Terrace Road and what was then the council estate opposite the school in Ambleside Avenue.
The nice roads included Walton Park, Rydens Avenue, Rydens Rd, Ashley Park etc.

That said, when I look at Rightmove now, even the less “nice” areas from back then are expensive now!
Sadly, I’ll never be able to afford to move back.

Thanks @Greenshake thats reassuring and helpful to hear.
it’s such a mix bag of opinions it’s really hard to know where is good.
we are looking at the 700-800K mark. But yeah agree almost everywhere seems pricey.

There should be some pretty decent properties around that price mark. I absolutely love it here, will find it very hard to leave should that day ever come. By the way, the council estate opposite the school that Also mentions is the St Johns estate that I was talking about.

@Alsoplayspiccolo thanks that’s super helpful really appreciate it.
yes to be fair it all seems nice but it’s always helpful to have insider info as it’s a big move.

I also grew up in Walton on Thames. Walton Park. I agree with the others that there are no really bad areas. It seems like Hersham gets lumped in with WoT on right move now but it’s not Walton…

For your budget you should get something nice. Houses nearer the stations Hersham and Walton tend to be more expensive. You can live in WoT and still be walking distance of Hersham station.

If you find anywhere you could always post links or give us a road name and we can provide sagely local knowledge….

Good luck with the move.

A lot of the morning commuter trains are standing room only by the time you get to Walton. I’d probably do a test run if I were you. I wouldn’t want to stand personally, but I know I’m lazy 😂
