I've been talking about get the blasted windows and doors done since I moved in 6 years ago. Had many quotes over the past 3 years and I'm just trying to check I'm not paying over the odds.

The first quote probably 3 years ago was £5.5k.

The ones last August all came in around £9k! New one just come in at just over £10k

This is for 8 windows. 1 pvc back door, french doors and a composite front door with side panel.

South Midlands area.

It sounds about right. I just paid 3.5k alone for just a composite front and back door. Other quotes were as high as 4k

Yes unfortunately that does seem about right for the price now. You an always get more quotes.

We just had 16 upvc sashes supply and fit and disposal of old for £12k. This included bay windows – ie 3-4 sashes plus the framing. South east.

Wow, that's a lot of windows, @pelargoniums

It sounds like the price is about right. It's just such a leap in a few years! I'm gutted I didn't invest a few years ago.

Thank you all.

2 largish windows plus square bay, £6k. Very pleased with them, all quotes were similar (SW England)

SpottyStripyDuvet · 24/01/2023 13:40

I paid £3.5k for a composite front door and 2 new windows last year so I would have thought £8-10k for 8 new windows.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 24/01/2023 13:49

Sounds about right. We had 2 large bay windows and a small window replaced last year for just over 7K. The company had quoted the year before for 5.5K. We have used them for years and I trust them. They were very apologetic but said (as we all know) that the cost of everything had skyrocketed.

Like you, it was a costly delay on our part but the prices are not going to come down any time soon and this was one job we did not want to do ourselves so we just had to suck it up.

They did do a lovely job though which took the pain away a bit!

I paid around £4,500 for a bay window and 4 other windows last year (South West)

HeyBwoss · 24/01/2023 14:13

I feel your pain. We had a quote of £24k. Whole house needs redoing, including 2 doors and 2 bays.

HeyBwoss · 24/01/2023 14:13

We're in the south east though.

User76765 · 24/01/2023 14:21

there are still supply issues with glass

Nurse1980 · 27/01/2023 13:19

Yes I’m in the NW.
Ten UPVC windows, one UPVC door and one composite door is costing me £9000.

Mark19735 · 28/01/2023 00:23

There's lots of UK window companies, but not so many companies that make the extruded plastic that is used to make the frames. A lot of the main suppliers for this component do their manufacturing in the Netherlands.

The reason prices have gone up is ...

...

...

...

(starts with a "B" and ends with a "rexit")

Still ... I'm sure that there's a Mongolian company that can step in. Have you tried the Chinese pork markets? I hear they've opened up too. Or maybe you could build the windows out of sovereignty?

beguilingeyes · 28/01/2023 02:06

Sounds about right. We paid about £9000 for ours. The house is starting to feel a bit like Trigger's broom, we've changed so much in a year.
