Conservatory roof

Just had a quote to put a solid roof in our ancient upvc conservatory. They want almost £17000 inc vat just to replace the roof! Is this actually the cost for a 3x3m roof or do they just not want the job. We were hoping to maybe even make it warm enough to open up properly and apply for planning permission etc but this just seems like an awful lot when we’re not upgrading glass or frame. Are we better to just wait till we can afford a proper extension? Another company has quoted similar to refurb it enough to meet current building regs but it’s such a lot of money.

They don't want the job.

@DRS1970 Yeah thanks that’s what I think too. No idea why but upto them I guess.

Am not 100% sure of the exact materials used, but a friend installed flexible wood/mdf panels on the inside of the roof and then had it plastered and painted. It has made such a difference to the look of the room - and definitely cost a lot less!

We had one put on, don't waste your money. We didn't pay that much, we used a local independent company. It's great for keeping it cool in summer so we can use it but makes zero difference in winter.
