Living room layout TV situation

Any ideas please?
Door to room is directly opposite the fireplace.
We have 2 small sofas at either end of the room, 1 in front a bay window and one on other opposite wall. Small TV is currently 'behind' the door to the right coming in, on a bureau. So only the person on the sofa on the right can watch it (have to sit sideways)
No room for furniture in the middle of the room.
I want to have the TV somewhere a few people can comfortably watch it.
Any ideas? If it was over the fireplace (currently a mirror there) it would have to be quite big and people would be far away from it.

A sketch of your room layout would really help.

Can understand the layout perfectly.

Much as I hate them, I think in this case a TV over the fireplace (replacing the mirror) is the only practical solution.

Without a sketch it's hard to picture but could you not move the TV to the opposite corner and then put the sofa that's currently next to the window parallel to the wall where the door is? Would you have enough room to open the door and walk in/out of the room if you did that?

What you want (or what I'm trying to go for here) is an L-shaped arrangement of seating with the TV opposite the corner of the "L". That's how most people arrange their living rooms as far as I know.

I'm against putting the TV above the fireplace because it will end up too high on the wall in most cases - the TV should be at eye level. You'll end up with neck problems otherwise.

Yes... at the risk of sounding like 1 of those annoying posters that say it for the sake of it, I'm afraid we need a diagram!

My TV is above the fireplace and it's absolutely fine, comfort wise. I don't like it being the focal point of the room, and would much rather have a lovely mirror there, but in all honesty it's the main reason we use that room - so makes sense to place it in prime position!

This is the reason L-shaped sofas were invented.

So at the moment the TV is on the door wall. But it needs to be on the fireplace wall. Most people would just put it on one side or other of the fireplace.

I'd get a corner tv unit and put it where the coffee table is.

something like this

S = sofa
F = fish tank
TV in the corner near the fireplace.

Do you have alcoves either side of the fireplace? We eventually realised we could mount ours on an arm that moves in and out so we can pull it out to watch and push it back into the alcove when we’re not.

This might work. My dad actually had that set up, as he also had a tricky room to furnish.

I'd personally go with the bigger TV above the fireplace though, but it really depends on your lifestyle.

I agree the TV needs to be where the coffee table is and the sofa that's currently in the bay needs to be moved to be parallel with the fish tank/table/door wall.
