Which colour rug?! Haven’t a clue…

Hi,

I am looking for a rug for my dining room to go under the table.

The feature wall is navy, all other walls light grey. Oak floor and rectangular oak table with brown leather chairs one side and bench other.

I haven’t got a clue what colour to go for! The current look we have is sort of industrial.

Can anyone help? Thanks 😁

I've just bought rugs and gone entirely Oriental style. They're timeless, classic and go with almost anything. I bought hand knotted wool from Nain Trading www.naintrading.co.uk/oriental-carpets?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrf6jz4PZ_AIVAu7tCh0oXwE2EAAYASAAEgKDcvD_BwE

I looked at navy / grey / oak / brown and thought of seaside colours.
Try googling "beach house area rugs ideas" and see if that floats your boat (to coin a phrase!)

@Workinghardeveryday
I think oriental might be difficult with your scheme. I’ve attached 3 from West Elm. They also do a colour graded one that replicates the sea and sand! However under a table you won’t see it! So go for repeat pattern and something easy to Hoover! You should aim for accent colour with table settings and decorative accessories that you can see!

I meant to say I also like sculptured rugs. I’ve attached a couple from Bo Concept which are expensive but this style looks great. Don’t forget you need to be able to move the chairs on the rug. You need it big enough so they don’t fall off the edge as people try and push back.

@TizerorFizz thank you! Great ideas 😁

I'd also try to pick up the colours you already have in your room and stick with those, so navy, grey and brown. A rug is a great way to pull together your colour scheme. It's hard to find affordable rugs wide and long enough for a dining table, you'd be likely looking at a minimum of 3 x 4 m, for a 2m table, but you could stitch 2 smaller ones together, if the pattern is a repeat.

As above, avoid the classic mistake of a rug that is too small for your table and chairs. People often buy rugs only large enough for the chairs when they are tucked in, not fully pulled out, and it looks awful. Pull your chairs away from the table as people would when dining, and make sure none of the chair legs are off the rug.

Something like this might work well with your blue colour scheme, while avoiding a very obvious "matchy matchy" look. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-multi-medallion-rug-red/p5806073
